Grievance cell offers relief

The Cell is becoming popular among people because of speedy redressal to their issues
Nellore: The weekly public grievance cell being organised by police authorities under the supervision of SP S. Senthil Kumar at Nellore is becoming popular among people because of speedy redressal to their issues.Although civil issues are generally not entertained by police, petitions are being submitted on some civil issues are also being resolved with the help of district legal services cell.
Land disputes are being referred to tahsildars (Executive Magistrate) to book cases under Section 145 CrPC to prevent occurrence of law and order problem. DSPs concerned being told to bind over those involved in the dispute under section 107 CrPC.Majority of the petitions related to financial and family disputes and ill treatment to elders from their kin and they are being resolved through counselling.
Yemula Sai Saranya, 28, of Shramik Nagar in Nellore had all the praise for the police department for sparing her from harassment by in-laws. She said that her husband’s family, who were torturing her for marrying him without their knowledge, forced to relent after Nellore rural police counselled them as per the directions of SP on August 8 this year.
Addanki Srinivasa Rao of Vedayapalem is also grateful to the police for putting an end to the threatening calls he was receiving and also for restoring his motorcycle that was taken away by some rowdies.
A distributor for an online recharge company, Srinivasa Rao and his dealers lost nearly Rs3 lakh, which they deposited after the company closed overnight. He approached the grievance cell when a goon hired by one of the dealer started intimidating him over phone. The calls stopped and the dealer even returned the bike he took away following police intervention.
Most of the petitioners are satisfied because the SP has been giving clear directions to station house officers to file FIR in all cognizable offences.
Cases are being booked under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, wherever aged people are getting raw deal from their kin.
The number of petitions received during August this year was 389 and disposed were 374. The number of petitions went up to 518 in September and action has been taken in 377 cases. The follow up mechanism devised by the SP is the main reason for the speedy disposal of issues, a police officer said.
