Morning scene at AIADMK headquarters

As the Karnataka High Court is about to hear the bail appeal of former chief minister Jayalalithaa, life at Avvai Shanmugam Salai in Chennai — where the AIADMK headquarters is located — was normal at 8 am.

A guard at the building had just garlanded the golden-coloured statue of party's founder and former state chief minister MG Ramachandran.

A woman in half saree was sweeping the area near the statue. In the campus that is usually filled with party functionaries, none were seen in sight.

A tea shop and a petty shop adjoining the headquarters were open. A fruit vendor too was on the road with cartful of apples and oranges.

A girl was pedalling her way to school in her bicycle and a father was taking his daughter to school in his motorbike.

Autorickshaw drivers were waiting for their customers. A policeman was on patrol keeping an attentive eye on the road.

Though there was a surface-level calm there was a hidden question in most of the people's minds there: Will the bail be granted today?
