NEW DELHI: A day after Jahnvi was found at a west Delhi market, the police were trying to establish the identity of her abductors. There are some leads but no clear answers yet. Besides the local police, the crime branch and special cell are at work, trying to ascertain if the disappearance was the handiwork of an organized gang.
While the cops have not commented on the investigations officially, sources say they were giving more weight to the theory that the child was abducted by an acquaintance or a childless couple who may have released her under massive media and police pressure.

"She is just 3-year-old and can't give us the information we need. When asked who took her away, Jahnvi says 'Mummy Papa'. When asked who cut your hair, she says 'Mummy'. All this is very confusing," said a source. "We are probing if she is speaking randomly, out of sheer habit. We are going to seek the help of a child psychologist as well in figuring this out. Also, the handwriting on the board she was carrying will be analysed by experts."
Jahnvi's abductors took very good care of her. While her head was shaved carefully without any cuts, her clothes-she was wearing the same ones but they had been washed-were clean and she had been fed well. She has not complained to her mother about having been beaten up or abused -in fact, there are no injuries on her body. It seems harming her was not the motive behind abducting the child, said an officer said.
The cops also believe that a woman could be involved in the incident and a relative of Jahnvi is under the radar. The person's movements of the past one week are being verified, the officer added. Nothing definite can be said for now.
Police are also trying to get the footage of CCTVS installed on all the routes from the spot (in Lajwanti Garden's D block) where she was found on Sunday night. The cameras en route Shahjahan Road and the adjoining roads that one may take to go to Janakpuri form India Gate are also being examined.
"It can be either a resident of the area or an outsider who dumped her there. In both cases, we hope to identify someone who would have been accompanying her. We are also questioning all the shopkeepers and barbers of the area to find out who shaved her head," an investigator said.
