Shania Twain has opened her first Shania Kids Can Clubhouse in Brampton, Ontario.
The country superstar's Shania Can Charity Foundation will provide $100,000 a year for enrichment programs for at-risk students at the Sir Winston Churchill Public School in Brampton.
The program features free tutoring, recreational activities, healthy snacks, and life skills coaching for students from the disadvantaged district.
Twain noted, "I made a vow to myself when I was a child . . . if I ever made it, I would some day help kids like me. Every time I come to a program, either to revisit it or to open one, I'm looking at a lot of me's in there. What I'm hoping for them is that they learn through the program the coping skills and the learning skills to fulfill the burden and demand placed on them to be as functional as they can be."
