Former County Council member Jack Ross said it was a chance to catch up with old mates.
“It was good to catch up with everyone again,” he said.
“It was a great place to work. I made some great mates and they have stayed mates all my life.”
The reunion dinner attracted around 100 former County Council employees who, through a number of structural changes and amalgamations, served a considerable portion of the state stretching as far west as Moree, to the Queensland border.
Mr Ross said the North West County Council was operating as early as the 1950s and was later renamed to North West Electricity and later amalgamated into North Power in the 1990s. Mr Ross, with his own 23 years of service, was joined by the likes of former County Council linesman Les Cook who had accrued almost half a century under the former council’s banner and fellow former employees from all facets of the Country operations. He said the reunion was an opportunity to bring old friends together and was followed by a brunch at Lake Inverell on Sunday.
Traditionally, the County Council joined a number of similar county organisations responsible for, among other duties, maintaining the supply of electricity to the state’s rural and regional areas.
Mr Ross said the County Council was a steady employer in the district for both outside and administration work.
After amalgamating with North Power, the organisation covered a large portion of the state stretching from just north of Newcastle to the Queensland border.
