Day 3 of the first Myntra Fashion Weekend hosted at Palladium Hotel in Mumbai started off with great mirth and laughter as stand-up comedian Sunil Grover, better known by his screen name Gutthi, turned showstopper for actressturned-designer Mandira Bedi. Dressed in character with ribboned braids on either side of his face, a big bindi, earrings and white sneakers under a fuchsia pink sari with gold-and-sequin border, the surprise showstopper coyly walked down the ramp to wildly cheering fans. Rather than stopping at the end of the runway, he walked right up till the photographers' station.

Adding to the amusement, Gutthi thanked Mandira for "making me (the) 'fullstopper'". Fun factor Gutthi then did her trademark round of introduction starting off with herself and moving on to the models who he called 'size zeroes'. "If you put the digit 'one' in front of so many zeroes, it'll amount to so many crores," he joked. Grover also asked Mandira why the petticoat was made to match the colour of the sari, especially since it can't even be seen underneath the sari.

Grover ended the show by quipping, "My parents shouldn't get to know that I walked the ramp because it's not allowed to in our family. My father has never let my mother walk the ramp either." Mandira's collection of festive wear and cocktail saris comprised brightlycoloured silk sections with sequin and lace borders. The colour palette included nearly every shade of the spectrum from red, pink and orange to shimmering silver, gold, indigo, emerald and more. Mandira, who rose to fame for her saris while hosting the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003, presented a variety of sexy blouses with deep scoop necks and a strapless blouse in black and nude that made quite an impression.

The second show for the day was by a French fashion magazine. It presented winter essential looks inspired by the 'je ne sais quoi' (a pleasant quality that is hard to describe) of French fashion. Against a visual backdrop of the Eiffel tower, French cafes and palaces, models strutted down the ramp in chic winter wear where tweed, plaid, thin knits, denim and faux leather took centre stage. From denim tops, jeans and boots to maxi dresses, jumpsuits, knitted pea coats and crop-tops, the range covered the style transition from day to night.

Eyes on her

Actress Diana Penty walked the ramp for the brand in a grey coloured tweed skater dress with a black blazer, woolen tights and knee-length boots. While Penty looked charming in the dress, her braided Mohawk hair added some chutzpah to her girl-nextdoor style.

HAIR AND HOW
The brain behind mane for all shows at the event, Adhuna Akhtar (in pic), hosted a special interactive workshop for a select audience to share some style secrets from the runway. The wiz hairstylist did a show-and-tell on how to use one's natural hair to create interesting hairstyles. The model was given three styles in the half-hour long session. While answering questions of the audience on hair care, Adhuna also introduced her new range of hair care products, B System, which took three years to be developed. It is aimed at addressing specific needs of different hair textures.

YOUNG and FASHIONABLE
Saturday saw a special show of five young labels curated by designer Aki Narula. Shunning the 'same old style' of presenting ensembles, the show began with models getting up from amid the audience. The collections comprised designer labels Huemn (left) by Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty with their sporty and slouchy fit designs, Surendri (right) by Yogesh Chaudhary with his big sunflower prints on feminine silhouettes and Quirk Box by Rixi Bhathia and Jayesh Sachdev that presented their Bombay Balloon collection of whimsical treats. Ikai by Ragini Ahuja and Ka-Sha by Karishma Shahani Khan completed the brat-pack and added a refreshing perspective to the day.
