TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A heap of square-shaped kites with holes in the middle are stranded in the table of the Indonesian-Korean Culture Study (IKCS) stand.
Several visitors are busy decorating plain kites with various ornaments available. “This is a Korean kite, it’s shaped differently from Indonesian kites,” Asrida, a staff of IKCS in the 2014 Korea-Indonesia Festival, said on Saturday.
Korean kites are square-shaped reinforced with bamboo frames. The middle consist of two holes with diameters of half of the kite’s width.
“The hole functions so the wind could fly the kite,” Asrida explained.
IKCS partners with Kite Museums in Jakarta to provide plain un-ornamented Korean kites. Other than that, variety of pictures are availale to be cut and glued to those kites, such as South Korean flag symbol (taegeukgi) and hanbok traditional clothing.
The 2014 Korea-Indonesia Festival held in Jakarta on October 3 to 31 will display cultural products such as musics, films and foods.
The cultural festival is held by the Korean Embassy for Indonesia, Korea Culture Center (KCC), Korea Toursim Organization (KTO) and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Indonesia.
