Man, son electrocuted in northeast Delhi

A 40-year-old and his 20-year-old son were killed in an accident after they came in contact with a live wire hanging from a transformer.

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old and his 20-year-old son were killed in an accident after they came in contact with a live wire hanging from a transformer. The incident was reported from Harsh Vihar area of northeast Delhi on Sunday afternoon. Police said that the transformer belongs to the BYPL.
The incident took place around 1.30pm in the Saboli Colony area.
The deceased man, identified as Kamal Rana, noticed his son Prakash, had touched the live wire and was stuck to it. He rushed to his rescue but got himself electrocuted too.
Locals spotted the two men lying on the road and raised alarm. The police were informed and the two of them were rushed to GTB hospital but were declared dead on arrival. which pulled them away after switching off the supply. The two were rushed to GTB hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
However, BYPL issued a statement claiming that the wire had hung out after the transformer was hit by a speeding truck.
"In an unfortunate incident, a father and son duo got electrocuted and died in Pratap Vihar (near Saboli in Nand Nagri), East Delhi. According to the preliminary investigations undertaken by the company, a moving truck (while reversing) had hit a BYPL substation, breaking the overhead electricity cables. A live cable fell on the fencing of the substation. Around the same time, a boy touched the fencing and got electrocuted. His father tried to save him and in the process, he too got electrocuted. Our condolences are with the family," the BYPL statement read. The BYPL claimed to be lodging a complaint with the police for further investigations.
Residents claimed that they had complained about the transformer to the electricity department several times but the officials had taken no action. Rana, who owned a hardware shop in the area had also staged a protest demanding action against the company. The police said they had registered a case of causing death due to negligence under sections 304A of IPC and were probing to establish culpability. The FIR has been registered against unknown persons as of now. The cops are recording the witness statements and trying to track the driver of the truck involved in the incident.
