LAHORE: Fancied mare Unanimous established herself as the sprint queen with a smooth victory in the Eid Cup handicap race during the day/night racing at the Racecourse here on Saturday evening.

Participating in a field of 10 blue-blood competitors, five-year-old Unanimous, whose handicap had swollen to nine stones 10 pounds after she scored victories in the past, defied the crushing weight registering a victory with customary gameness in the event run over 1,100 metres.

The sprint machine outgunned her nearest rival colt Hidden Passion by three lengths.

The Mohammad Ali Khan Maneka-owned Unanimous was trained by Qaiser.

Trainer Tauqir Ahmed, who is enjoying a successful season, had yet another good day saddling home three winners to stretch his winning spree to a fourth consecutive racing day. He sent out his first winner rank outsider Jagirdar, who won the second race. Tauqir then followed it with a big double for owner Zaheer Aslam through mare Nikita and bay colt Edgar in the third and seventh races, respectively.

Anticipating lack of competition, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards cancelled the eighth and the last race thus reducing the card to seven events.

The stewards have also decided that from now onwards the meetings will be held during day time on Sundays, starting from next week.
