Now, Purampokku has a historical significance too

Director SP Jhananathan���s next film, Purampokku, starring Karthika, Arya, Vijay Sethupathi and Shaam, was in the news recently, when a huge jail set was erected at Binny Mills in the city. We now hear that the idea for film���s characters are names of people from history.
Says Jhananathan, ���If you see, many of our significant historical changes were born behind prison doors.People like Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and many leaders, who were imprisoned made an impact from behind bars. Which is why, I wanted to give my characters, names which were historically relevant. Arya is named Balu, who was a real legend, born in Madurai and lived in Andhra as a cop. Karthika is named after Kuyili, a lieutenant of Velu Nachiyar. She was the freedom fighter who strapped herself with explosives to destroy an English arms godown. Shaam is named Macaulay ��� he was the one who designed the education system and punishment rules of the British regime. Vijay Sethupathi is named Yamalingam and he is an absolute brat of a character.���
