AHMEDABAD: It's been a long time that shooting has been a saving grace for India at most of the quadrennial events. Right from Beijing Olympics in 2008, which saw the rise of Abhinav Bindra, to Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, it has been, for long, a breeding ground for many Indian marksmen and women.
National Rifle Association of India's decision to give Ahmedabad a chance to play hosts to the XXIV All-India G V Mavalankar Shooting Championship is going to be a big draw in the state.

State's most celebrated shooter Lajja Gauswami, who won a bronze in the recently concluded CWG, has been an inspiring story for many youngsters who are keen to pick up a weapon to take aim. With such a major shooting event coming to state, state shooters will surely get the much-needed boast.
G V Mavalankar sees participation from those shooters who aim to reach higher places in the sport and it is good to know that more than 1,300 shooters from across the country will take part in the various categories of the prestigious championship.
The championship will be in held in small bore rifle, pistol events at Rifle Club in Khanpur from October 5 to 15.
After the high of the recently concluded Asian Games, it remains to be seen who the shooters from pan-India fare in this championship.
