For a bunch of young National Cadet Crops, Naval Wing cadets, a 10-day ocean sailing expedition that concluded here recently was a lesson in maintaining composure in the face of adversity.

The NCC Group Headquarters, Puducherry, arranged the expedition along the East Coast Road as part of the NCC’s adventure activities from Puducherry to Thopputhurai and back.

‘Sagar Bhraman,’ as the expedition was code-named formed part of the all-India competition among the Naval NCC units for the coveted Most Enterprising Naval Unit (MENU) Trophy which would be given away by the Prime Minister at the Republic Day parade.

The sailing team comprised 30 Naval NCC Senior Division Cadets drawn from St. Joseph’s College, Cuddalore, Annamalai University and TBML College, Porayar.

The cadets were received by Colonel Anil Nautiyal, Group Commander, NCC Group, Puducherry, at the Thengaithittu fishing harbour. Electricity and Education Minister T. Thiagarajan complimented the cadets for their successful completion of the expedition.

Mr. Nautiyal said, “During the expedition, the cadets’ skill level was tested when the sea was choppy. As the days progressed, they adapted to rough sea. In between, they carried out social services such as coastal cleaning and planting saplings. During the course of expedition, the cadets exhibited indomitable spirit and endured tough conditions at sea with great deal of zeal and enthusiasm.”
