Don Bosco (Matunga) defeated archrivals Children Academy 1-0 in the MSSA U-16 hockey final at MHA here yesterday. Children Academy, who will not be having an under-16 side for the next four years, tried their best but Don Bosco were clearly the better side.

Mihir Patil was the hero of the day for the Dosco side, converting a penalty corner in the 35th minute.

The Children Academy players, disheartened with the loss, said they will not be participating in the under-16 category for the next four years as their coach will be concentrating on the new talent. “Many players will now leave the college as they are in the SSC. The new players will have to be from the under-10 and under-12 categories,” said coach Marzban Patel.

“If we had won the game, it would have been a fitting gift to our coach,” said Jay Parmar, centre-back of Children Academy. In the girls’ finals Carmel of St Joseph beat Durello Convent 2-1. Chryshelle Fernandes and Lynette Lobo scored a goal each for Carmel, while Vaishnavi Rane was the only scorer for Duruello.
