THANE : A convict, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2007 murder case during the Bhiwandi-Nizampur civic election, has been asked by the Bombay High Court to surrender immediately after he jumped parole for more than a month now.
Along with Salim Wali Mohammad Qureshi, the murder convict, 11 others were also convicted by the court for murdering Akeel Shabbir Qureshi.
Justice V M Kanade and Justice P D Kode of the Bombay High Court ordered the convict to surrender to the Kolhapur jail immediately.
Enjoying parole frequently, Salim came out on parole on July 24. He had been given a deadline to return to jail on August 23. However, he did not report and hence the original complainant, Mohad Hanif Nadir Hussain Qureshi, filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court, challenging Salim’s intensions.
Chetan Agrawal, the counsel advocate said that medical certificates produced by the accused were fabricated. The court took cognizance of this and questioned the convict, who was present in the court anticipating extension order, asking him to surrender immediately failing which he would miss privileges.
The court also directed the public prosecutor to submit a report on the alleged fabricated medical reports produced by the convict. Agrawal said that the matter was posted for October 7.
