Congress promises no road toll in manifesto

After not buying out the Sion-Panvel road project and not stopping toll collection, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and his party have promised to stop the toll collections at all five nakas on Mumbai’s periphery if the Congress comes to power. The government would buy out the toll collections, the Congress manifesto says.

The state Congress released its manifesto for the assembly elections at the MPCC office at Nariman Point on Thursday. The Congress has said that it would close down all toll nakas that collect toll to pay for the construction of the 55 flyovers in Mumbai. The CM has already alleged that there is corruption in the toll collection in the state.

Mumbaikars are faced with yet another toll naka, at Kamothe, which would pay for the Sion-Panvel road widening. Former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had said that the government must buy it out from the MMRDA and Cidco, but Chavan did not.
