A picture is making the rounds on Twitter, purportedly of a rat checking out some Parisienne carrots in Woolworths.

"Rats spotted WOOLWORTHS_SA Bryanpark. Could this be a way the public is showing support for BoycottWoolworths" Twitter user ‏@Dineo_Guruuu tweeted.

@Dineo_Guruuu appears to be part of a group calling for a boycott on Woolworths due to the company importing produce from Israel.

Woolworths has responded to the tweet, saying that they take the sighting extremely seriously.

"We were alarmed to learn that a rodent had been sighted in our store. We immediately contacted the Mall owners and engaged the services of a range of experts including leading pest control agency to address the concern," Woolworths said in a statement.

"We suspect a refuse area, near our store, in the Mall may be attracting rodents."

"Every precaution will be taken to ensure that we maintain the highest standards of hygiene that our customers expect,” the company said.
