Tapan Ray relieved from GSPC [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Gandhinagar: Senior IAS officer Tapan Ray, who was recently appointed in the central government, was on Tuesday relieved from the post of GSPC managing director by the state government.

Ray, IAS of 1982-batch, was appointed as additional secretary in the department of electronics and information technology at the Centre earlier this month. His wait for being relieved of the GSPC responsibility ended on Tuesday with the GAD issuing orders relieving him. He was heading GSPC since November 2009, i.e. nearly five years.

It was during Ray's tenure that GSPC's Deen Dayal West project in KG Basin was completed. The Rs15,000-crore project has seen several delays and huge cost overruns as a result, but it is completed, and will start producing gas once the central government announces revised price. The acquisition of BG stake in Gujarat Gas Company by GSPC group was also completed during his tenure.

Incidentally, Ray's predecessor and industries secretary DJ Pandian, who was GSPC MD for over eight years, has been given additional charge of GSPC.
