Rupiah strengthens to 12,099 per dollar at close

The rupiah interbank trade rate in Jakarta appreciated by 26 basis points to Rp 12,099 per US dollar in the final session on Thursday.

'€œThe country'€™s macroeconomic data that was published by the BPS [Central Statistics Agency] on Wednesday was responded to by the market today. The rupiah was able to appreciate even though it is pretty limited,'€ Monex Investindo futures analyst Zulfirman Basir said, as quoted by Antara news agency.

He said that even though Indonesia'€™s trade balance suffered a US$318.1 million deficit in August this year, the country'€™s export volume, which rose by 10.63 percent, has made market players less worried about the country'€™s future economic situation.

In addition to that, the 0.27 percent inflation rate recorded in September 2014, which was still relatively low, had instilled optimism among investors.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia'€™s mid-rate data showed that the domestic currency was traded at Rp 12,136 per US dollar, up from Rp 12,188 per US dollar in the earlier trading. (nfo)(++++)
