Jamie Falla Architecture added an extension to a 1960′s bungalow with a view of Vazon Bay in Guernsey. The addition encompasses two bedrooms and an open-plan living room.
The Etoile du Nord, as the home is called, has an impeccable location. The architects aimed to maximize the available views within the entire space, as previously the best view in the house belonged to the utility room.
The contemporary design was achieved by layering materials, effectively breaking up the mass of the house into more manageable elements, each with their own personality. The stepped form also has the added function of helping the home integrate into its surroundings. The stonewall base keeps the building secure to the site, while the glass-and-white rooftop pavilion is intended to match the beautiful sky.
