Carmelo Anthony says he’s most underrated superstar: report

Underrated? Carmelo Anthony, coming off a free-agency tour in which he visited four teams willing to give him a max contract, said he’s an “underrated superstar’’ – whatever that means.

“I think I’m the most underrated superstar that’s out there but that doesn’t matter to me,” Anthony told ESPN in an interview earlier this week.

Anthony was asked if he was he underrated because he hasn’t yet won an NBA title. Anthony also has gotten out of the first round just twice in his career.

“I know what I’m capable of doing. I know the grind and the hard work I put in to this,” Anthony said. “I know how consistent I’ve been over my career. … So as far as caring about if I’m underrated as a superstar, and getting the respect I deserve, I don’t worry about that. In due time if everything goes well, I will get it.”

Asked if he’s bothered he’s not mentioned in the same class as LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Anthony said: “I know, personally, I’m there. It doesn’t bother me.”

Anthony was offered a max contract by the Knicks but took a little less – five years, $124 million to give the club a little more cap space in 2015.
