Hot Start: Chris Petroff has commenced the new season in rare form

Queensland reinsman Chris Petroff has started the new racing season in a hurry.

The richly talented freelance driver landed a quartet of winners last night (Wednesday) at Redcliffe which follows on from his metropolitan double at Albion Park last Saturday night.

Petroff, 36, steered Texas Terror, Brian Buster Brown, Nobody Knows and Alta Mario to Victory from his six drives on the ten race program.

To date, Petroff has driven 14 winners this season and trails fellow Queenslander Shane Graham by that same amount following the first month of racing in the new season.

Currently, Graham leads the National premiership.

“That was a good night at the office and a few more of them would be great throughout the year; what’s the old saying, you’re only as good as the cattle you sit behind but I’m hoping we keep building on the current momentum.” Petroff said.

Landing a quartet of winners is not uncommon for the skilled and aggressive reinsman with previous quartets also recorded at Albion Park and the now defunct Parklands complex at the Gold Coast.

Last season, Petroff wound up with 83 winners and 125 placings from his 585 drives.

During the 2012/13 season, Petroff landed 81 winners.

“Winners have been quite consistent in the last couple of seasons but I’m hoping to crack the century this season, that’s certainly one of my goals and we’re on the way to date.

“It’s all about maintaining momentum and consistency; I’m lucky that I’m getting some good opportunities currently and I want keep expanding on that area, it can be tough at times as a freelance driver but hopefully a few winners can give a boost.

‘Majors Blue Jean is a nice horse that I’m currently driving and he looks destined for better things here in Brisbane, he’s got speed and strength and he enjoys the fight on the track so hopefully we can both hold our form together for a little longer yet.”

Petroff is no stranger to classy pacers owing to the deeds of Flashing Red, Five Star Comfort, Sir Galvinator, Caesar Augustus, Il Tenore, Armida, The Archduchess, Bronski Gorgeous, Captain Joy and Drop Dead Gorgeous, My Liberty Belle, Devils Dream among others.
