There’s no story too inane for musical theater, as composer Andrew Lloyd Webber demonstrated with “Cats.” Or is there? We’ll find out when the reviews are in for “I Am Stephon Marbury,” a new musical focused on the former NBA star’s life in China. The show, which opened this week at Beijing Wukesong Stadium, is described on its website as “China’s first fusion of sports, music, dance and multimedia for a sports-themed youth theater event.” Though best known as a teammate of Kevin Garnett’s in Minnesota and, later, a productive member of the Nets and Knicks, Marbury played for the Celtics in 2009. Marbury, 37, has lived in China since 2010, winning two Chinese Basketball Association championships in that time. A man of many talents, he plays himself in the production.
