MBABANE – Youngsters Sifiso Mhlanga and Sihawu Dlamini continue to shine as they will compete with Africa’s best in the celebrated LOGICO Swazi Frontier race.

Mhlanga and Dlamini, aged 18 and 25, respectively, teamed up for their inaugural participation in the Mountain Bike (MTB) pair’s stage race held over three days in the north west corner of the country. Registration for this year’s festivities will be next Wednesday while the race will be staged in the following three days.

Race organisers, Brett and Lesley Foss, in a joint statement, confirmed the latest developments. “Sifiso won many of the short distance courses at Swaziland’s local day races.  This secured him a sponsorship from the organisers of The LOGICO Swazi Frontier”, said Lesley.
“As soon as we began sponsoring him, Sifiso started competing in the long course distances of 60km and above at the local day races and was the first Swazi in most of them.”

Dlamini’s consistent top three performances in the short distance courses, on other hand, also earned him the coveted sponsorship. He has also been competing in the longer distances at some races this year.

“Sihawu is close behind Sifiso when it comes to speed. They took first and second place on the podium at the King of the Mountain race in August. They are a formidable pair with potential to dominate local cycling in the coming years,” read a statement from the organisers.

“We are confident that they will have a great frontier race since they know how to strategise.  It will be a different experience because Sifiso and Sihawu need to ride at a steady pace to make sure that they last all three days.  They need to eat and sleep well before and during the race to make sure they have enough energy to endure the strenuous three days.”

Other seasoned local cyclists who were once sponsored to compete in the race are Thulani Gule and Fana Mentani. Visiting Arno Du Toit and Paul Cordes from South Africa’s ASG MTB Academy Team won the last edition of the event in 11:04:37 hours. The race starts at Hawane and ends at Maguga Lodge outside Pigg’s Peak, covering a total distance of 180 kilometres.
