Family of girl in suicide bid wants FIR against principal

GURGAON: The parents of Pinky Chauhan, the student who had tried to immolate herself on the premises of the Government Girls College, Sector 14, over extremely low marks, have demanded registration of an FIR against the principal of the college, who has bnow been transferred. Pinky was first made part of a 12-member committee which was to present the case to Maharishi Dayanand University and later locked up in the college chemistry lab and threatened with suspension.
On Wednesday, the girl's father, Veerpal Singh Chauhan, and her mother along with several fellow residents of Kasan village, near Manesar, met Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal and expressed dissatisfaction with the police action in the case. They maintained that several facts have been overlooked In the evening, a candlelight vigil was held in honour of Pinky in front of the college gate amid police security. The students said they were praying for Pinky's early recovery. Some members of ABVP, the youth wing of BJP, joined the vigil.
In Safdarjung Hospital, Pinky's condition was reported to be stable on Day 3. Pinky's family members said although a series of incidents led up to the drastic step taken by the Maths Hons second year student, the last straw on the camel's back was certain things said by a lecturer. The family did not elaborate, though.
