In a new video uploaded to the YouTube channel of a production company part-owned by Charlie Ebersol (the son of former NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol), Lance Armstrong puts forth a challenge: Can Ebersol run 1/4 of a mile in less than 70 seconds?

The challenge was based on the marathon record set last month.

“I’m convinced that 99.9% of the world can’t do that,” said Armstrong of the 70-second 1/4 mile pace.

Ebersol took on the challenge — while wearing non-workout clothes — and according to Armstrong’s watch, managed to complete the 1/4 mile in 62 seconds.

Ebersol told For The Win that he had been discussing the marathon record with Armstrong who was breaking down on Twitter just how fast it was in terms of miles and quarter-miles, when the two decided to see if Ebersol could break the 70-second mark. They went to a local Target, bought running shoes off the rack and then went to a local high school track.

“No one said anything,” said Ebersol, of the high schoolers who were having football practice in the middle of the track.

Ebersol said the video isn’t a preview of any future show that Armstrong is signing up to do — though he hopes the 70-second challenge goes viral.

“I think when it comes to people like Lance or Derek Jeter there’s a certain value in just enjoying your life for whatever’s going on so I’m not going to push him into a reality show,” he added.
