15 lakh acres marked for industries in Telangana

While the state government is rolling out the red carpet to industries and gearing up to announce its new industrial policy soon to attract investments, the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) has already identified about 15 lakh acres across nine districts of Telangana for new industrial units.
On the directions of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the TSIIC, along with the industries department, revenue and pollution control board authorities, surveyed about 30 lakh acres in the past one and half months.Of this, around 15 lakh acres were found suitable for industries, sources said, adding that 10 lakh acres are located either close to existing industrial areas or district headquarters and main roads.
To begin with, about 25,000 acres have been identified, especially in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region (HMR) and Hyderabad to Warangal corridor, for industrial parks to be developed in the next six months. The remaining land would be developed in phases in the next two to three years, official sources said.
As many as 216 locations, each having an extent between 100 and 400 acres, were identified in a 70 km radius of HMR in Kandukur, Ibrahimpatnam and Yacharam mandals in Ranga Reddy district, Mulugu, Gajwel, Toopran, Patancheru, Zaheerabad, Jinnaram, Shivampet and Sadasivapet mandals in Medak district and Chotuppal and Malkapur mandals in Nalgonda district.
On the location of different categories of industries coming up in the state, sources said it would depend on the state government's discretion. For instance, pharma city is likely to come up on the southern part of Hyderabad towards Ibrahimpatnam and some in Medak districts beyond Outer Ring Road.
Some industrial zones, such as a textile park, would be planned in Warangal district as it is rich in cotton cultivation, officials said. "Funds for creating infrastructure would be released under Industrial Infrastructure Development Fund (IIDF). Generally, the state government releases Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore a year. But the chief minister assured to sanction about Rs 100 crore under IIDF," an official of TSIIC said.
"For development of any new industrial park, land, water and power are the primary requirements. The land parcels suitable for industrial purposes were identified based on availability of water and power. The chief minister also announced that 10% of the water from the proposed water grid would be allocated for industrial purposes," a senior official of TSIIC told TOI.
