Evert lost both his parents and returned to South Africa to live with his aunt after spending a number of years being educated at Lithgow High.
More than $6500 was raised through a raffle that saw the first prize being a stay at the magnificent Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, generously donated by the resort.
The draw was made at the Lithgow Mercury Office by Emirates’ Executive Assistant Manager Brendan Millett who said the resort was happy to help out.
The lucky winner was Lithgow Primary School principal Vicki O’Rourke.
A trivia night organised by Henriette Pedersen of the Lithgow Golf Club was a financial success thanks to the generosity of the many sponsors that donated prizes on the night.
The organisers have thanked Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort, Lithgow Golf Club, Eves Boutique, Secret Creek, Miranne Jewellers, Silhouette Day Spa, Harvey Norman, Lithgow Mercury, Intimate Dreams, Lithgow Giftware, Bianca Villa, Bouquets by Design and Pizza Hut.
“Evert was a popular student at our school and it was not difficult to get people to help him out in his hour of need,” organiser Samantha Luchetti said.
“The money left over from Evert’s expenses will go into the Geldenhuys Foundation.
“Thanks once again to all those who purchased tickets, attended the trivia night or just helped out in any way.”
