Moda Operandi Offers Up Dolce & Gabbana's Entire Spring 2015 Collection

This article is more than 9 years old.

The point of a fashion show is to tell a story; a designer’s point of view on how women should dress for the upcoming season. These presentations often impart a grandiose quality, which is meant to resonate in the minds of buyers, editors and those that follow the industry resolutely, enforcing the notion that a semblance of this fantasy can be attained by the purchase of a skirt, dress or blouse.

And if the degree of fantasy can be measured, Dolce & Gabbana certainly reaches the boiling point. Season after season, this Italian atelier showcases a dreamscape of looks, with rich embroideries, shimmering appliques and legs for miles. Over recent years, they have brought us to the Sicily—the home base of the design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. For Spring 2015, they decided to focus on the Spain’s occupation of the island, and the impact it had on Sicilian culture.

The uniform of the Spanish matador was definitely the driving force in this collection—read: chaquetillas (the jackets), capote de paseos (the capes), and camisas (the shirts) came aplenty. Even the prints were of the intricate cords found on the traditional costume. Though the line teetered more towards a literal interpretation of the traje de luces, it was nonetheless impactful and sagaciously modern with the silhouette of the dresses.

Each look played up this fantastical theme, but most of them (83 to be exact) will never be seen on store shelves. Retailers have the knack for buying the less prodigious pieces, leaving only a select amount for the general public to purchase . . . until now. For the first time, Moda Operandi, the online in-season boutique, is offering up the entire collection soup to nuts. So if you saw an item that resonated with you, you have from today until October 5th to partake in the dream.
