The campaign for a sequel to 2012’s Dredd movie — based on the British comic strip character from the long-running 2000AD anthology — has declared Oct. 1, 2014 as the second annual “Day of Dredd,” inviting fans to make one more push to drive attention to the Karl Urban actioneer.
For this year’s “Day of Dredd,” fans are being asked to buy the movie on DVD or Blu-ray, watch it through a streaming service like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Google Play, share the hashtag #DayofDredd on Twitter and Facebook, and sign the official petition for a sequel, if they haven’t already done so. (Dedicated fans could also sing the unofficial song of the campaign, but that isn’t actually one of the campaign’s actual recommendations.)

As part of the push, Olivia Thirlby, who played Judge Anderson in the movie, has recorded a special message thanking fans for their support so far. “It means everything,” she says. “Thank you so much for the petition that you made to try to get us a sequel. To everyone who’s signed it, thank you so much. If you haven’t signed it yet, please go do it, because we really want to bring you a Dredd 2.”
More than 125,000 people have signed the petition to date. Of course, this kind of democratic action is exactly the kind of thing that the notoriously fascistic Judge Dredd wouldn’t support, which may make all of those who’ve signed lawbreakers in his eyes. Drokk, as the man himself would say.
