In a recent radio interview with ESPN Wisconsin’s Jason Wilde, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers answered some questions from fans at the end of the segment. One of those questions concerned a pre-snap signal Rodgers has used in which he imitates smoking.

Wilde: Jeremy asks: “What is that pre-snap signal where you look like you’re smoking? Is that a smoke route, or is that an indicator of two high safeties? Tony asks, “How do you keep from laughing with some of the hand gestures you do in the no-huddle?”

Rodgers: That was just a tribute to Jay Cutler, because there’s that ‘Smoking Jay’ web site. So I was just doing a tribute to him …

Wilde: I think you’re making that up.

Rodgers: … I don’t remember.

Smokin’ Jay Cutler” is a Tumblr blog/meme thingy that imagines Jay Cutler smoking cigarettes on and around the football field.

It’s tempting to think that Rodgers is actually playing tribute to the Cutler meme with this signal, but there’s very little chance it’s true.

Rodgers wouldn’t want to tip his signals, on a radio show or otherwise. The funny thing is he’ll probably have to change it now that everyone on the internet is talking about this. Looks like we ruined another good thing here, Internet. Hope we’re all happy.
