VARANASI : The celebrations grandeur of the last four days of Durga Puja festival commenced from Maha-Shasthi on Tuesday and will continue till the day of immersion on the eve of Vijayadashmi.
The sixth day of Shardiya Navaratri marks the arrival of the sixth form of Goddess Durga, Katyayani who rides on lion and is believed to be blessed with three eyes and eight hands, possessing eight types of weapons.
It is believed that on sixth day, Goddess Durga descends to the earth and the whole city is lit up with decorated pandals to celebrate the occasion.
A special Shobha-Yatra was carried out to bring the idols from Kamachha to Bharat Sevashram Sangh, Sigra on Tuesday. What added to the glamour was the display of the symbolic warfare display by the volunteers of the math-mandir and the Trishankha Puja aarti was performed at Sevashram Sangha in the evening.
One of the pandals at Gym’s Sporting Club at Bhelupura depicts the famous Isckon Temple of Ahmedabad sculpted by Manoranjan Pal. “The cultural event, including a singing contest, will be held on October 3”, informed MK Banerjee, the secretary of the puja committee.
President of Akalbodhan Committee SN Dubey said, “This year we will hold a Dhunuchi Dance Competition on Ashtami and prize distribution will be done on Navami alongwith the Bali Puja. Abhijit Biswas has beautifully designed all the idols.”
