Vinoo Mankad Central Zone U-19 postponed?
NAGPUR: The ongoing tussle between Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Rajasthan Cricket Association has now had its affect on players of Central Zones too.
According to sources, the BCCI has postponed the Vinoo Mankad Under-19 Central Zone one-day tournament, which was scheduled to be held from October 5 to 11 at Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The Rajasthan High Court has given some ray of hope for Rajasthan cricketers on Tuesday when Justice Manish Bhandari directed both the RCA and the BCCI to submit their list of selectors by Wednesday morning.
From these two lists, the court will then appoint a "mixed" panel of selectors, which will then name the squads for the upcoming domestic season.
The squads thus selected will represent the state of Rajasthan, and not RCA, in the BCCI-organised domestic meets. The court took the decision on a PIL filed by more than 75 cricketers of the state, belonging to various age-groups. Incidentally, some of the senior cricketers did not sign the petition.
The teams of all the Central Zone Associations - Vidarbha, UP, MP, Chattisgarh and Railways - were almost final for the tournament and the itinerary was announced without including the Rajasthan team. With this judgement, the BCCI had no option but to postpone the tournament.
"It was expected. The BCCI will either appeal to the two-bench judge or will go to Supreme Court to obtain a stay on the order. The cricketers will suffer if they do that. Earlier, only Rajasthan cricketers were suffering. Now, all Central Zone cricketers will have to suffer," a Central Zone official told TOI on Tuesday.

"Our preparations were almost done. Now, we will have to wait and watch. The BCCI already has packed calendar. I don't know how they are going to hold this tournament at a postponed date. This year, they have already re-jigged the tournaments due to World Cup. Besides, the junior selectors would have had first opportunity to see the talent for 2016 Under-19 World Cup. It's not easy," he said.
There will be other Central Zone tournaments too lined up next month. Their fate too is hanging in balance.
