MUMBAI: The passing away of cricket statistician and historian Anandji Dossa recently brought together a handful of faithfuls at the Cricket Club of India on Tuesday to remember the genius who has left behind a rich heritage behind.
Former India player Madhav Apte, a dear friend of Dossa, threw light on little known facts from his's life. "When I met him last on his 96th birthday two years ago he was still young at heart.
'Now we'll meet four years later when I turn 100,' he had said. He didn't live by the rule of the game but lived by the spirit of it. It will be difficult to replace him," said Apte.
Another facet that made Dossa such a revered figure was his generosity when it came to sharing his vast knowledge with aspiring statisticians. Reputed statistician Sudhir Vaidya recalled how he as an understudy had complete access to his library.
Veteran scribe Raju Bharatan informed the gathering of Dossa's quick presence of mind in providing information to the commentators. "He kept scores with precision and at most times would correctly anticipate what the commentators would ask for.
