Manufacturing zone at Kalinganagar on cards

BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has approved setting up of a National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) at Kalinganagar in Jajpur district.
It would be set up by Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) to increase share of the manufacturing sector to 25% in the gross domestic product and create employment opportunities, official sources said. "The state had sought in-principle approval for NIMZ in July.It was taken up with Union commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman's during her Odisha visit in August," said a senior Idco official.
Kalinganagar was selected for NIMZ since it is emerging as a steel hub with investment coming in from both public and private sectors, the officer said. "According to guidelines, 5,000 hectare is required to set up NIMZ. Idco has 5,811 hectare at Kalinganagar," he added.
Idco has invited bids to prepare master plan and detailed project report for it. It would also hold a pre-bid meeting with consultancy firms on October 13. The Centre will provide financial support to develop the NIMZ with facilities such as production units, public utilities, residential areas and administrative services. tnn
