BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has approved state's proposal to set up six more units of software technology park of India (STPI). The park, an agency under Union ministry of communications and information technology, promotes export of software products from states. New IT investment proposals are also registered through STPI units. Except Tata Consultancy Services, a special economic zone project, all IT firms are registered through STPI in the state, official sources said.
The new units would come up in Jajpur, Sambalpur and Jeypore, Angul, Rayagada and Bhawanipatna. With the additions, the number of STPI units in the state has gone up to 10. The existing STPI units are located in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Balasore and Rourkela.
IT minister Pranab Prakash Das had written to Union communications and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on July 2, seeking Centre's approval to the new units.
