Independent audit looms into Lake Butler Marina finances

The District Council of Robe expects an independent report into the financials of Lake Butler Marina will be tabled at its October meeting.
Earlier this year, Robe audit committee chairman William Peden questioned whether a $1 million 'loan' owed to the council had been gifted to the marina project, despite ratepayers being told their money would not be used.
Chief executive Roger Sweetman reported at the council's August meeting that no loans had been written off or any annual interest charges gifted.
He said the money in question was not a loan but a liability reported to the marina committee and the council.
External auditors have been called in to provide clarity on the matter.
