Legendary Batsman Javed Miandad Tuesday advised skipper Misbah ul Haq not to repeat the mistakes against Australia that were made in the Sri Lanka series saying defeating Aussies won't be a piece of cake.
Pakistan will play one Twenty-20, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests against Australia from October in the UAE. The series will be kicked off with the T20 to be played on October 5 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Talking to APP, Miandad said Misbah should aim at winning the series as it won't be an easy one. "Don't repeat the mistakes that were done in Sri Lanka series," he said adding Saeed Ajmal's absence would be widely felt in the series.
Miandad said without Ajmal he doesn't see Pakistan leading a good bowling attack in the series. "Our batsmen need to stick to the crease and at least score 50s," he said adding the team's performance relies on the individual performance of the players and each player should play for their country.
Miandad said it will also be Shahid Afridi's first assignment after his appointment as T20 skipper. "Afridi needs to work hard on his form and prove he is the right man for the job," he said. "He should focus on his batting especially and on how to improve it," the 124-Test veteran said.
Miandad also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to follow a proper, phase-wise approach in selecting squads and captains. "If a player is to be named in the squad or a captain is to be selected, the person(s) in focus should undergo an appropriate process during which the individual should be interviewed on his IQ and on how he can play his role in improving the team. Only then appointments should be made," Miandad said.
