Forget same-day delivery. How about same-hour delivery?

Postmates.com promises to hand-deliver gourmet hot dogs from Biker Jim’s, prescriptions from your pharmacy and organic bananas from Whole Foods within an hour.

The San Francisco-based service launched in central Denver Tuesday and promises to deliver anything you order from a store or restaurant in areas including LoDo, Uptown, Cherry Creek, Capitol Hill, RiNo, Five Points, Baker, Highlands, DU and LoHi. If the item is available, Postmates wants to deliver it to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As part of the launch, it’s offering six free deep-fried treats from VooDoo Doughnuts to anyone who downloads the app. First come, first delivered, of course. The launch offer continues through Thursday, starting at 10 a.m. until the supply runs out. Doughnuts and delivery are free.

While city dwellers already have a few other delivery options ( Instacart.com for groceries, Drizly for alcohol), Postmates relies on the crowd to make deliveries. Almost anyone can become a delivery person and make money. It assigns the order to the best possible driver. Very Uber-like.

“Anyone can apply to become a Postmate, but we screen all applicants via background checks and interviews,” said spokeswoman Heather Lunz.

Postmates’ Denver launch included about 100 local drivers. Delivery fees start at $5.

Other launch promotions:

• $50 in delivery credit for first 500 Denver customers. Just enter “DENFRIEND.” Expires Oct. 31.

• Free delivery on all orders through Oct. 15.
