Music was in the air and there was magic too as Mullassery Raju, a lover of music who had a remarkable circle of artists as friends, was remembered on his 12 death anniversary at Tagore Centenary Hall in the city on Friday. (Film director Ranjith’s ‘Devasuram,’ with Mohanlal in the lead, is based on Raju’s life.)
Actor Manju Warrier was the biggest attraction. She began her speech by remembering U. Srinivas, the mandolin genius who passed away earlier in the day.
Another State-award winning actor Rima Kallingal, directors Jayaraj and Ashiq Abu, scriptwriter T.A. Razaq, writer and former MP M.P. Veerendrakumar, oncologist V.P. Gangadharan, producer P.V. Gangadharan, Mathrubhumi managing editor P.V. Chandran, and Kozhikode Collector C.A. Latha also spoke on the occasion.
They were all there because of Lakshmi, Raju’s wife.
Magic showMelodies from Malayalam films were rendered by a large number of singers that included Satheesh Babu, Nishad, Sindhu Premkumar, Sibella Sadanandan and Sunil Kumar. A magic show by Pradeep Houdini enthralled the full house.
