Sky Bet Championship: Jose Riga and Aitor Karanka frustrated after Blackpool and Middlesbrough draw

Blackpool manager Jose Riga refused to be drawn on an offensive tweet from Nile Ranger following the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Controversial striker Ranger, who has previously had contracts terminated by Newcastle and Swindon due to several off-the-field issues, tweeted an expletive in an apparent venting of frustration having not been selected in Riga's squad.

When asked whether he was aware of the incident, the manager replied: "No. I just take my decision because that is my job."

Ranger's actions overshadowed an impressive result for Blackpool, who collected just their third point of the Sky Bet Championship campaign as Ishmael Miller cancelled out Daniel Ayala's opener.

It was the third draw earned by Blackpool in five games and Riga is hoping a first win is just around the corner for a side that was largely assembled during the summer.

Blackpool collected just their third Sky Bet Championship point of the season when holding play-off chasing Middlesbrough to a 1-1 draw.

"I am satisfied," he said. "I will obviously be happier when we get our first win but I am satisfied.

"We have to build on good results. We created some chances to win and this is certainly the first step.

"This (season) is the first time the players have played together; our story has started this season."

Riga remains at the helm of Blackpool despite a much-publicised dispute with chairman Karl Oyston, who at one stage approached Burton boss Gary Rowett to replace the Belgian.

Riga initially inherited a squad with just six professionals and, while that number has been bolstered, he feels more reinforcements are required.

He admitted: "I am realistic and I know that to be competitive, we need more. When your team gives so much and are only able to get draws, it is because you need something more.

"The situation must change. It is not yet what I expect for reasons I do not want to speak too much about.

"I don't feel any more or less comfortable. I just feel I have to do my job and get the best performances from my players and staff - even a reduced staff."

Riga was not the only boss frustrated, with Middlesbrough's Aitor Karanka far from satisfied with a point.

"I said yesterday that if we want to do something this season, these are the kinds of games where we cannot lose points," he said.

"We made mistakes and played in a way I didn't like. But we are just three points from top.

"The performance was a surprise because we had recovered our consistency and confidence. Now we have to recover it again."
