Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is all set to ensure a smooth Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din celebrations at Deekshabhoomi. Buddhists in lakhs are likely to throng the holy place to mark conversion of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and his followers on October 3.
Additional municipal commissioner Hemant Kumar Pawar visited Deekshabhoomi on Tuesday and inspected the preparations. NMC officials from various departments were present during the inspection.
Large number of Dr Ambedkar’s followers will come to Deekshabhoomi for the annual fair from various parts of the nation. Considering this, the civic body has set up 210 temporary water connections and will provide 24x7 water supply for two days. Besides, 10 tankers will also provide water to devotees.
NMC will engage 2,000 sanitary workers and install 300 plastic drums for collection of garbage. Ten vehicles will be deployed round the clock to transport garbage from drums to Bhandewadi dump yard. NMC has also installed 40 CCTV cameras for security. For proper sanitation, 740 temporary toilets have been constructed in Deekshabhoomi and Mata Kacheri premises. One hundred temporary bathrooms have also been set up for visitors.
Considering that fair goes on through night, the civic body has installed 200 floodlights, 200 tube-lights and five generators. The streetlights on roads leading to Deekshabhoomi have been repaired. NMC has also repaired potholes and patches of bad surface layer on Central Bazaar road and South Ambazari road.
Pawar told the officials to keep NMC control room operational round the clock. “Besides water supply, ensure buckets and mugs are provided at temporary toilets and bathrooms. Head of departments should be present to monitor the arrangements,” he said.
