Navelim student dies in accident

Margao: A 19-year-old student, Shahad Ismail, a resident of Ratvaddo in Navelim, died after he came under the wheels of a truck at Navelim junction, Tuesday afternoon.
Police sources said that Ismail was riding a two-wheeler and on reaching the junction, he attempted to overtake the truck ahead of him from the wrong side while negotiating a turn. He failed to steer clear of the truck and came under its wheels.
The driver of the truck, apparently unaware of the incident, proceeded quite a distance until he was signaled to stop by the locals. Ismail died on the spot.
The Margao town police arrested the truck driver, Venkatesh Chalwadi.
