Work has started on a $95 million Biosciences Building at Central Michigan University, making it the largest construction project in the university’s history.

The project, along with an $8 million lacrosse/soccer field and student recreation center, is supported through about $45 million in bond money, $30 million from the state and $28 million from internal construction reserves and gifts, according to a university press release.

“The Biosciences Building will dramatically improve the quality and the quantity of instructional learning and scientific research on our campus,” University President George E. Ross said at a recent groundbreaking.

The building is expected to be ready for classes and research by January 2017.
