Manmohan, Sonia effigies of ice: Bharti

The ten years of United Progress Alliance (UPA) government was an ‘ice age’ as there was policy paralysis. Former prime minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were like ‘effigies of ice’ (barf ke putle) as they took no pragmatic decisions to move the country on the path of progress, said Union water resources minister Uma Bharti while addressing a programme in the city on Tuesday.

Speaking about the purification of Ganga, the minister stressed that the government is committed for making the river pollution-free. For this, more sewage treatment plants will be set up. Chemicals and waste water will not be allowed to flow directly into Ganga.
She observed that the personality of the 20th century was Mahatma Gandhi, who gave us freedom and freed us from the shackles of British slavery. The main issue of the 21st century will be development.
