'Models of the Moment' Cara, Gisele, Gigi and Kendall lead a fashionable protest at Chanel

Kaiser Karl’s A/W 14 collection involved a pop-up supermarket, complete with Chanel branded merchandise and shopping baskets.

In previous years there was a moving carousel, an airplane with model stewardesses and a show set in a reconstructed ice glacier.

How does one top that?

With the world’s most famous faces on speed dial, Mr Lagerfeld put in a few calls and ensured his most recent offering would dominate headlines.

Cara Delevingne (21) helped open the show this morning in the house’s signature tweed suit, in a relaxed, masculine fit paired with a loud, colourful blouse and espadrille shoes.

The lineup for the show was a ‘who’s who’ of the international modelling scene: Georgia May Jagger, Gisele Bundchen, Edie Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Malaika Firth and Daphne Groeneveld

The show really kicked off when Georgia took to the runway in clashing, psychedelic prints.

She was followed by models in patterned ties, vibrant wellington-like boots, two-piece skirt suits and pussy bow blouses with billowing sleeves.

Next came the more classic Chanel looks- monochrome, pinstripes, double breasted blazers- through a set built to replicate a fictional ‘Boulevard Chanel No 5’.

New this season were knitted striped cardi dresses- Gisele wore one in taupe and cream with matching boots- khaki suede separates and gold foil bomber jackets.

The Chanel show is always a signifier of trends to come, ones to watch in our book are shimmering gold tights, over-sized white collars, 1970s prints, and mosaic-like beading.

To close the show, the models stormed the runway carrying placards that read ‘Be Your Own Stylist' and  'History Is Her Story’ while Cara chanted “What do we want” from a quilted megaphone.
