Former European champion Jamie Moore says he feared he was going to die after being shot four times in Marbella.

Moore, who is based in the Spanish town where he has his own gym, underwent surgery after being attacked by a masked man in his driveway last month.

The British trainer was shot in each leg with one bullet passing through his left thigh and another lodging in his right hip. His shoulder was also wounded while a fourth bullet burnt the skin on his wrist, with Moore left bleeding for nearly half an hour before paramedics arrived.

"I had a hollow feeling. It seemed like a dream. I was thinking, 'This is it'," Moore told BBC Sport. "I was thinking, 'I can't believe I'm not going to see my kids'."

Moore was told by the emergency services that he could have died had the bullet wounds to his legs not narrowly missed key arteries.

The former light-middleweight champion is walking with a limp but physiotherapists have told him he should make a full recovery with the right rehabilitation.

"I'm in a lot of pain, but I put a brave face on it for my son," Moore said. "I'm his hero and he doesn't like seeing me in pain. So I cover it up."

Matthew Macklin, Moore's most talented fighter, called off a WBC world middleweight title eliminator after the attack during their training camp but has since made a victorious return to the ring under Joe Gallagher.

Moore is hoping, however, that he can return to full fitness in time to help Macklin win a world championship.

"I'm hoping he comes back to me and we can do it together, but I'll be just as happy if I see him win a world title as if we did it together," Moore said.
