"Some of the cameras have been already installed on a trial basis. The rest will be done within a day or two. I will go to inspect them on Wednesday," state minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told reporters on Tuesday.

Vacations for the Eid-ul-Azha and the Durga Puja will start from Sept 4, but since it's a Saturday, a lot of people are expected to start leaving for their ancestral homes from Thursday.

The minister said that adequate measures have been taken to handle law and order during the holidays.

"Dhaka almost gets empty during the vacations. I would ask landlords also to install CCTV cameras. This helps. "

Kamal said that watchtowers along with police camps have been set up on the highways during the holidays when the rush peaks.

"The police will be equipped with night vision binoculars so that they can monitor the situation after dark."

The BGB along with the police and Ansar will be on alert and patrol the highways during the holidays, he added.
