FIDE: Armenia’s Aronian drops to World No. 5

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has issued its rankings for October 2014.

Accordingly, Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia—has dropped three places and is now fifth in the new FIDE rankings.

2013 World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), on the other hand, continues to top the list, GM Fabiano Caruana (Italy) has climbed to second place, and GM Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) is third in the new standings.

Armenian has four more representatives in the world top 100 rankings; they are GMs Gabriel Sargissian (53rd), Hrant Melkumyan (64th), Sergei Movsesian (93rd), and Vladimir Akopian (94th).
