Assembly Elections: BJP names 40 star campaigners; Advani, Joshi omitted

The Bharatiya Janata Party has drawn up a list of 40 star campaigners for upcoming Assembly Elections in Haryana and Maharashtra.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has drawn up a list of 40 star campaigners for upcoming Assembly Elections in Haryana and Maharashtra.

The list features Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, party MP Hema Malini, general secretary JP Nadda.

Notably, the list does not include the names of party stalwarts like LK Advani and MM Joshi, who have also been dropped from the BJP’s highest decision-making body, the parliamentary board.

The names of Haryana leaders have also been included in the list.

For campaigning in Maharashtra, state BJP president and sitting MLA Devendra Fadnavis, senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Vinod Tawde, and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Eknath Khadse have been roped in for campaigning in crucial polls.

The Election Commission has announced a single-day Assembly poll in Maharashtra and Haryana on October 15. Counting for both the states will take place on October 19.
