In a major boost to research, Saurashtra University (SU) has got two faculties sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, under the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) programme.

RAJKOT: In a major boost to research, Saurashtra University (SU) has got two faculties sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, under the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) programme.
Dr Nirav Patel and Dr Vaibhav Bhatt from the pharmacy department have been selected for the INSPIRE faculty scheme.
"The programme aims to attract talent for study of science and careers with research.
INSPIRE faculty scheme opens up an Assured Opportunity for Research Career (AORC) for young researchers in the age group of 27-32 years," said Mahendra Padaliya, vice chancellor of SU.
Each selected INSPIRE faculty is eligible to receive a consolidated amount equivalent to the scale of the assistant professor of an IIT as fellowship amount. In addition, a research grant of Rs 7 lakh per year for five years shall also be provided to each successful candidate.
Patel is currently doing research in development of nanotechnologies for cancer treatment, especially for prostate and breast cancers while Bhatt is currently working on bovine mastitis, an inflammatory reaction in the mammary gland of cattle.
"We will not only get two more full-time professors but also highly qualified persons in teaching and research," said Ashvin Dudhrejiya, head of pharmacy department.
